Dolce & Gabbana Mother’s Day Tribute: Viva la Mamma

Just in time for Mother’s day, Dolce And Gabbana took to the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week in the most unusual but special way. Each model carried a baby down the runway, and even pregnant supermodel Bianca Balti, strutted down the runway utterly bump proud, and looked stunningly beautiful in a powder pink Dolce & Gabbana Dress!

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who are behind the Italian brand, sent models down the runway in decidedly feminine dresses and skirts adorned with roses, lace and even embroidered doodles by the designers’ own nieces and nephews. Many of the looks featured saccharine needlework phrases like “I love you, mamma” and “Per la mamma più bella del mondo” (for the most beautiful mother in the world) as a tableau vivant of moms and daughters stood and posed as a backdrop for the runway.

The backdrop of the show was a white panel, with a single red rose and the word ‘mamma’ which was scripted across the white back drop. All the mini models were all designer clad, wearing adorable lace dresses and mini suits – the lace dresses looked simply amazing.

Babies as accessories? Not exactly. More an expression of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s respect for women and one of the multifarious roles they play.
